Getting Started
Prior to your first appointment, we’ll schedule a complimentary 15-minute telephone consult so you can learn a bit more about how I work and clarify if this is the right type of therapy for you. If we decide to move forward, you will need to bring several completed forms to your initial appointment. Our first visit will last roughly 2 hours and include reviewing your paperwork, discussing your history including any prior experiences with therapy, exploring your expectations and main reasons for coming to see me, and talking about the goals you’d like us to accomplish together. At the second visit, I’ll share my evaluation and treatment recommendations, and we can start our work together.
Meeting Format
Once we begin our work together, I typically recommend 100-minute appointments, the equivalent of 2 back-to-back sessions, at least for the first few weeks. These longer appointments allow us to reach a greater depth right away. You get time to explore and express your thoughts and feelings, and we still have time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. While requiring a greater initial investment, this approach creates an effective and efficient alliance that often saves considerable time and money over the traditional therapy rhythm of once-weekly 50-minute sessions.
Once we have established care, I am also available via telephone or computer for remote sessions.
Insurance
I am not an in-network provider for any insurance companies at this time. This generally means people pay out of pocket to see me. If you have health insurance, there is often some benefit for mental health treatment, even for out-of-network providers; you should check with your insurance before beginning treatment if you are hoping to be reimbursed. I would be happy to provide you with a monthly statement to submit to your insurance at your request.
